Dreamii

“Dreamii is a person that decided they needed to make music to tell their own story. Growing up… there was a lot of shame around my existence. We live in a world where people are always trying to silence us, especially me, and as long as I can breathe that will never F*****g happen. I want dreamii to be a symbol of hope and something that reminds people that they can do it too.”

Tell us about you:

Outside of music, I am a lover of people and genuine connections. I’m always rooting for the underdogs, because if they’re not appreciated then truly everyone is being held back from their fullest potential.

You and little guy:

Even now in 2024, the topic of queer music artists still has a taboo (yet sheer) veil over it. We deserve quotable lyrics. We deserve dances. Artistic risks. Representation. If the Little Guy is unseen, the rest of the world is living a lie. I just want people to be themselves and experience true liberation.

Tell us about your art:

Music is the only place where I feel completely free to be the full embodiment of everything I am. Life has taught me that very few people actually get to feel that. Knowing yourself authentically brings a different self awareness, a different strength of character. Making music helped me fall deeper in love with everything I am. Now that I am sharing my creations publicly, I’m realizing that me being that role model for myself is radiating onto those who listen to my music. It is too precious of a feeling to keep all to myself. Of course, being Black and queer have both shaped my perspective in ways seen and unseen. Authentic expression is the BEST resistance, and I want those who may have ever felt silenced by a world they’ve contributed so much to, to feel they have every right to shine just as bright as the next person.

Giving back:

During my time in college (BFA Musical Theatre) I created a diversity art group called Kaleidoscope. We created shows made up of skits highlighting various social justice topics and then provided space to dialogue with the audience about the aforementioned topics in order to foster community.

PSA!!! PLANTAIIN BUDDY drops this Friday August 9th. Go ahead and add that to your library. Be ready to dance!
